A major Data Processing center office belonging to the Nigeria’s election umpire, Independent National Electoral Commission(INEC), has been gutted by Fire.
The fire outbreak, which started around midday on Monday, Platforms Africa gathered, destroyed laptops, desktops, computers hardwares and critical softwares as well as the entire building.
The Kano fire fighters have already stormed the incident scene and were able to control the outbreak, this online newspaper can report authoritatively.
One of the staff in the commission disclosed that the fire incident started following a power surge, which abruptly resulted in the blasting of some air conditioners at the centre.
“In the data centre are laptops, batteries and other related gadgets for data processing activities,” he said.
“Close to the data centre is a box containing card readers but they were not affected,” he added.
His view was corroborated by a female staff who witnessed the incident.
“All the staff who are on duty scampered to safety after noticing a smoke bellowing from the room. We are fasting and we sincerely thank God for His protection over all of us today.
“Though as we speak, the fire has been extinguished but many of us have returned home to our families. Work has closed for the day and we may need some time to manage the tension and fear caused by this incidenr,” she said after her anonymity was guaranteed.
