A popular politician and chieftain of the country’s ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Imo State, Southeast Nigeria, Jonathan Ugochukwu, has been beheaded.
Ugochukwu was beheaded less than one hour after a security guard attached to another politican and lawmaker in the state was beheaded in multuple attacks on top poliricians and leaders in the Southeastern state.

The Imo State Police Command is yet to issue official statements on the assassination of Ugochukwu, it confirmed the attack on the country home of Ekene Nnodimele, the lawmaker representing Orsu Constituency in the Imo State House of Assembly.
Commissioner of Police in the state, Abutu Yaro, confirmed this to newsmen in Owerri on Wednesday.

Yaro said the attack, which took place at about 1am on Wednesday, also had a security guard on duty in the compound beheaded.
The latest assassination of Ugochukwu through beheading occurred, according to PUNCH in Orsu Local Government Area of the state.
The newspaper is reporting that the same set of hoodlums set on fire the country home of the lawmaker representing the area in the Imo State House of Assembly, Ekene Nnodimele, after beheading his gateman.
It said multiple attacks took place between 1am and 2am in the area.
The country home of the immediate past Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice of the state, Cyprian Akaolisa, was also burnt.
The house and vehicle of the Councillor representing Amaebu Ebenatu Ward, Clifford Mazi, were burnt by the hoodlums.
So also was the house of the President General of Amaebu Ebenatu, Oliver Ejelonu, burnt.
The wife of one of the victims, Nkechi Ugochukwu, told The PUNCH that the attackers invaded their house, took her husband out, beheaded him and set the house ablaze.
The state Commissioner of Police, Abutu Yaro, confirmed the attacks to The PUNCH.
Yaro said the Command was closing in on the attackers.
