Major Power outages are imminent at Lagos State Secretariat, The Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (General Hospital), The Ikeja High Court, and The Ikeja Mall (Shoprite), among others.
Nigeria’s largest Electricity Distribution company, Ikeja Electric (IE), has announced the planned re-conductoring of 132KV lines embarked upon by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN), aimed at expanding the capacity to wheel more power.
Platforms Africa reports that the Chief Technical Officer, Ikeja Electric (IE), Jide Kumapayi, who disclosed this while addressing journalists, said the upgrade by the TCN couldn’t have come at a better time as the capacity of most of the 132KV lines become limited due to time and usage culminating to inability to operate at full capacity.
According to Kumapayi, the TCN is currently embarking on the upgrade of 132 KV lines from Ikeja West to Ota and this activity is phased into four stages. This is the second stage and TCN is upgrading the 132kv lines with more robust and sophisticated replacements which provide an opportunity to increase power evacuation for improved supply to customers as well as offering excellent conductor capacity which can withstand very high voltage.
