JUST IN: Nigerians Angry As Lagos suffers Fresh 3-Storey Building Collapse

Relatives of dead victims of 21-storey collapsed building rained curses on corrupt official as Nigerians demand prosecution of Lagos state Building Control Agency (LASBCA) boss, officials

Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, has suffered another storey building collapse less than 24 hours after the Ikoyi 21-storey building collapse causing Nigerians to reject indefinite suspension or outright dismissal as only sanction for the General Manager, Lagos state Building Control Agency (LASBCA), Mr Gbolahan Oki.

They demanded the prosecution of the man and officials of the agency, responsible for approval of the collapsed 21-storey building in Gerald, Ikoyi, Lagos, which has so far been confirmed to have killed 20 people.

Platforms Africa reports that the latest of building collapse occured in the Lekki area of Lagos state as a three-storey mansion carved in.

The collapsed building which is located in Osapa London is under construction.

The number of casualties in the fresh collapsed building could not be ascertained as at press time as focus is on the 21-storey building, which collapse less than 24 hours and few kilometers away from it.

Platforms Africa reports that relatives of the victims, who on Tuesday besieged the scene of the 21-storey collapsed building, rained curses on all officials who, due to alleged corruption and negligence of duties, led to the death of their loved ones in the collapse.

“And, we were told that head of the Lagos building control agency has been suspended. We read the statement issued by Gbenga Omotoso the commissioner for information, and there is no where it is mentioned that anyone will be prosecuted. As at last count, 20 corpses have been evacuated, more are likely to be evacuated. This is the height of heartlessness.

“As for me, I reject suspension as only sanction for either Mr. Oki or any other officials. No one will take Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu serious again if those responsible for this act are not prosecuted after the probe,” an eye witness, Scott Somorin, told Platforms Africa.

A Nigerian journalist, Kayode oyero, alleged that the compromise of standard operating procedures by complicit and corrupt government officials has reached a sickening level that should be resisted with all state powers.

“Indefinite suspension or outright dismissal isn’t enough: prosecution should be added to the list of sanctions.

“Compromise of standard operating procedures by complicit and corrupt government officials has reached a sickening level that should be resisted with all state powers.

“I expect officials of the building agency, concerned ministries and others to have been put behind bars by now. That a building of such magnitude collapsed apparently due to structural problems is disgusting, an arrant slap on Lagos and a deterrent to investors,” he said.

Highlighting the pains the incessant building collapse would inflict on family of victims and on the Lagos economy, Oyero said; “The hospitality industry in Lagos will suffer some dip in patronage due to this growing building collapses in unimaginable highbrow areas of Lagos. Talk of increased phobia for heights by lodgers. Talk of increased distrust by tourists and investors in the state. The attendant economic consequences are left to be imagined.

“Beyond suspension, a stronger hammer should land on the culprits. All of them. May the souls of the departed rest in peace and may their relations find comfort.”
