Popular Rights Activist in Nigeria, Tony Tamuni-Ipriye Uranta, has died after a long time battle with ill-health that partially paralysed his body.
Platforms Africa reports that a statement by his family, which confirmed his death, read : “We announce the passage of Tony Uranta (TIU) at 1:32pm this afternoon.
“Tony has gone home to rest, after a long medical battle. He fought a good fight while here, but we believe God needs him now, to continue from the other side, and to perhaps conquer on his strong belief on Justice, Equity, Peace and Unity for Nigeria.
“Burial will be announced by family.”

A former member of the Presidential Committee on National Conference, Mr. Tony Tamuni-Ipriye Uranta, was, before he breathed his last, critically ill and partially paralyzedat the right side of his body.
With patriots like Prof Wole Soyinka and my colleague Dr Joe Odumakin who are overseeing Nigeria’s fortunes on behalf of the Nigerian masses, even though I’m temporary paralysed, I know Nigeria will get better.”
The very vocal Human Rights Activist has been on the front burner for some years now, challenging governments successively over issues that has to do with human right and Niger Delta and known for being factual and never relenting on what he believed in.
Dr. Joe Odumakin of the Women Arise, had in October, 2018, paid him a visit in the hospital, where Uranta made a wish on his hospital bed that Nigeria gets better.
Odumakin said; “You’re a staunch believer in the Nigeria Project! You’ve assiduously dedicated yourself to this cause. Our prayers for you as you recover is that it’s going to be very soon. After this test, a testimony would come. I personally wish you a very speedy recovery, Comrade.
Tony Uranta responded; “With patriots like Prof Wole Soyinka and my colleague Dr Joe Odumakin who are overseeing Nigeria’s fortunes on behalf of the Nigerian masses, even though I’m temporary paralysed, I know Nigeria will get better.”
Uranta a member, Federal Government’s Technical Committee on Niger Delta; Executive Secretary, Pan-Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) was also the Executive Secretary of the Nigeria National Summit Group (NNSG).
The deceased was an alumnus of the University of Ibadan who attended the institution between 1972 and 1976.
He is survived by his wife Baarong Uranta, a sports analyst with Channels Television.
