Dr James Edet, Manager Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), Research & Environment, TotalEnergies EP Nigeria Limited, has been inaugurated as the President of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE). Dr. Edet was sworn in as the 44th NAPE President at the 39th NAPE Annual International Conference of the Association (AICE), on the 18th of November 2021.
A industry professional, committed to safe exploration and production practices, he remains a strong advocate of Geosciences profession. Dr. Edet has served NAPE in various capacities as Vice President, Editor-in-Chief, Associate Editor/Editorial Board Member, Technical Session Chairperson, Judge, Assistant Coordinator Abuja Chapter, Short Course Instructor and member, University Assistance Program initiative, prior to becoming the President-Elect, and Chairman of Conference Planning Committee (CPC) of the 39th AICE.

He has about 25 years of post doctorate oil & gas experience, having started his career as a Petroleum Geologist specializing in Sequence Stratigraphy with Total (Formerly Elf Petroleum Nigeria Limited ) in 1996. He has held several key positions of increasing responsibilities across the Industry including serving as the current Secretary of the Stratigraphic Committee of the Niger Delta (STRATCOM) steering committee, member of the Structural, Lithostratigraphic and Seismo-Sequence subcommittee, company representative at the Nigerian Content Consultative Forum (NCCF) as well as Council of Nigerian) Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG).
Dr Edet obtained his Bachelor and Master of Science degree (B.Sc. 1983; M.Sc. 1988) in Geology from the University of Calabar and his Ph.D. from the University of London (UCL – Ph.D. 1995).
Dr. James Edet is a certified geoscientist by the Council of Nigerian Mining Engineers and Geoscientists (COMEG), Fellow of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (FNAPE), member of several other geosciences and industry associations including the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society (NMGS), American Association of Petroleum Geoscientists (AAPG), The Micropaleontology Society (TMS, UK), Nigeria Gas association (NGA) and the Nigerian Institute of Management (NIM).
