Don’t Tell Mum You Saw Me, Stranded Nigerian Begs as 180 Land from Libya

The Nigerian Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has received another batch of 180 stranded Nigerians from Libya.

Platforms Africa reports that one of the affected men, in his forties, who sighted a known face at the Airport, pleaded with him not to tell his mother about his evacuation. The man who, like others, masked up, vehement declined an inquiry from Platforms Africa about his name and other identity.

“She (mother) will be heart-broken,” he said, “she or anyone can not be told I was in Libya not to talk of the fact hat I have been evacuated. She is so sure I have been in England all this while. I will still be undercover till I find mercy and way to the UK.”

The Stranded  Nigerians were brought back into the country with the assistance of the European Union special programme through the International Organisation for Migration (IOM).

The returnees flight which took off from Mtiga Airport in Libya  arrived the Cargo Wing of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos Nigeria aboard Al Buraq Air Boeing 737-8GK with flight number BRQ UZ 189/190 and registration number  5A-DMG at about 2035 hours Tuesday.

The Acting Coordinator Southwest office of NEMA, Ibrahim Farinloye, confirmed to SlyeNews that returnees profile showed that female adults were 74, female children were 14 with female infants as 6 making the total female assisted back as 94 while male adults were 64, male children 12 and infant males were 10 with total males number as 86 amounting to 180 returnees altogether.

He said they are being kept for the mandatory 7-day isolation period before being allowed to go to their respective places for those who have no traces of a particular medical issue.

In the course of isolation periods, he said the returnees would be trained on various skill acquisition and small scale entrepreneurial techniques, while those who are semi-skilled would be trained further and those who wish to embark on entrepreneurial ventures would be facilitated to start on a sound note.

“These are aimed at rehabilitation and engaged them them for proper reintegration back to  their respective communities after the isolation period,” he stated.

Other agencies that participated in the operations are NAPTIP, Nation Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, Nigeria Immigration Services, FAAN and Federal Ministry of Health’s Port Health services
