To beat the deadline by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for the submission of names for the 2023 general election, the Presidential Candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi has picked and submitted former presidential spokesman, Doyin Okupe, as his running mate.
The selection however stands as an interim measure as Okupe will be substituted on or before August when the substantive Vice Presidential Candidate of the party emerges from the ongoing rounds of consultations on the matter.
Okupe who hails from Ogun state is a Nigerian physician and politician who co-founded Royal Cross Medical Centre and was the National Publicity Secretary of National Republican Convention (NRC). He was once detained under General Sani Abacha and subsequently disqualified from participating in United Nigeria Congress Party (UNCP) primaries; later on, he was a governorship aspirant of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ogun State.
