FRSC, LFR International, HEI Train 50 Lay First Responders

LFR International (LFR), Health Emergency Initiative (HEI) and Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) have trained over 350 lay first responders to effectively handle prehospital emergencies among Lagos.

Platforms Africa gathered that this is the first time a trainer of trainers model (TOT) has been used to build an EMS network in Nigeria.

Speaking at a joint press conference by the three institutions, Paschal Achunine, Executive director of HEI, said, “The sky is the limit for this partnership.

“We are pleased with these results and believe that we can build a solid EMS network throughout Lagos with FRSC and LFR over the coming years. We look forward to developing new partnerships with leaders in our communities to save lives.”

The cost of training per responder, which includes a first responder vest and first aid kit, according to him, stood at $16.32.

Following the successful results from the program, the three organizations are planning on training an additional 5,000 first responders in the next three years.

LFR International (LFR) will continue to collect data to monitor the efficacy of the program, which will be made publicly available in the coming months.

LFR International empowers Lay First Responders. LFR is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that collaborates with resource-limited communities to develop emergency medical services and train first responders, helping prevent the needless deaths of thousands every year.
