How the event has turned 800-year-old Khmer-era Hindu temple to a major attraction for tourists from across the world
In Thailand, every year a special food fest is hosted in honour of these monkeys. The reason the macaques get to enjoy a delicious feast is because the people of the town have a firm belief that they bring good luck and fortune, and are thus patient of their antics.
The gala event is hosted in the famous town of Lopburi in north of Bangkok every year, end-November. The Lopburi Monkey Festival is arguably the world’s wildest dinner party.

Special spreads of fruits, sticky rice and cashews is offered to the restless guests, and a unique an egg-yolk dessert known as thong yod is also served.

The festival is internationally famous and every year tourists from across the world throng to witness the crazy feast. The festival has been attracting audience annually since 1980s. Thousands reach the town to see the spectacle and click pictures and it part of special attractions in Thailand.

“The festival takes place on the ruins of Phra Prang Sam Yot, an 800-year-old Khmer-era Hindu temple and one of the town’s most striking landmarks,” an AFP report said. The report also added that regular feeding habits have made the monkeys accustomed to human presence and they even tried “stealing hair clips” from an international tourist.

Eventually the monkeys are found dancing on the tables, throwing soda at each other, jumping on people’s shoulder and tossing fruits around but nevertheless it’s part of a tradition that the town enjoys.
