How Nigerian Lecturer, Zahrah Ibrahim, Won European Engineering Award

The University of Aberdeen gives details of how her PhD candidate won 5,000 Euros cash prize for the prestigious award

 

The School of Engineering, University of Aberdeen, has given details of how a Nigerian lecturer and PhD candidate at the university won the inaugural European Drilling Engineering Association Drilling Engineering (DEA(e)) Innovation award, which came with 5,000 Euros cash prize.

Platforms Africa reports that the University in a statement on its website, wrote: “The School of Engineering would like to congratulate PhD student Zahrah Ibrahim, who was selected as the winner of the inaugural European Drilling Engineering Association Drilling Engineering (DEA(e)) Innovation award, which comes with 5,000 Euros cash prize and attendance at 2 DEA(e) meetings with paid travel and accommodation expenses.

“All applications were reviewed based on their innovation, relevance to the DEA(e) and impact to the industry and the steering committee agreed that Zahrah’s presentation scored high in all three categories.”

Meanwhile, Nigerians have taken to social media to congratulate Ibrahim for her feat.

“Congratulations to Zahrah Ibrahim, a Nigerian lecturer and PhD student in Engineering at Aberdeen in Scotland, for winning the prestigious European “Drilling Engineering Innovation Award,”. Kashim Shettima wrote.

Her presentation on “A Novel Approach for Wellbore Strengthening” wowed the judges, and secured her the top spot among the nominees.

“She is a role model for excellence and innovation in Engineering. Let’s celebrate her success and encourage more girls to pursue education and their dreams,” Folorunso Fatai Adisa wrote.
