. Lampoons Ogun Education Commissioner, Gateway ICT Poly Saapade Council for “reckless” breach of Polytechnics Act
. Tells Gov Abiodun OGITECH, Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic have no substantive Rector
The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) Zone C, through the zonal Coordinator has condemned what it described as “reckless” breach of Polytechnics Act and other extant rules by the Governing Council of the Gateway ICT Polytechnic Saapade and Commissioner for Education in Ogun State.
A report by Platforms Africa quoted the
ZONAL COORDINATOR ASUP ZONE C, Comrade Yekini Nureni Asafe, to have also described as “worrisome,” that the Governing Council and Ministry of Education that supposed to be a major stakeholder in upholding the integrity and standard of the institutions (Polytechnics) in the state via upholding the law and extant rules are the one violating the rules. D.S. Adegbenro ICT Polytechnic, Itori has been operating without substantive Rector for roughly 3 years. Ogun State Institute of Technology (OGITECH), Gateway ICT Polytechnic, Saapade, and Abraham Adesanya Polytechnic, Ijebu Igbo Rectors tenure were completed within June and July 2022.

The process for appointments of the Rector for the four Institutions has been completed, and qualify candidates were shortlisted, but the ministry had refused to forward the list to the governor for the appointment of the substantive Rector.
ASUP condemned in totality the action of the Ministry of Education in Ogun State under the leadership of Professor Arigbabu for his knockback to forward the list of candidates among those interviewed and found suitably qualified to the governor for the appointment. The union hereby demands that his Excellence, the good governor of Ogun State Prince Dapo Abiodun to call the Commissioner of education (Professor Arigbabu) to order and request him to forward list of the candidates that has been shortlisted to his good office for appointment of substantive Rectors in the institutions mentioned.
In Yaba College of Technology, the tenure of the former Rector Engr. Obafemi Omokungbe ended on January 29, 2023, and the process for appointment of the Rector for the 75years old institution commenced 6 months before the expiration of the tenure of former Rector in line with Polytechnic Act as amended 2019.

The Governing Council of the institution led by Lateef Fagbemi has since submitted the name of three qualified candidates from the selection process to the Federal Government to pick from. Now, the institution has been led by the acting Rector. It befuddled the ASUP in the zone that other institutions from the Zone like Federal Polytechnic Ile-Oluji, Federal Polytechnic Ado-Ekiti that completed their own process of appointment of rector after YabaTech own has been given rector. ASUP prayed that the good president of Nigeria should, as a matter of urgency, appoint the rector for this great institution among the shortlisted candidates without further delay.
