Tenant Beats Landlady For Demanding Electricity Bills

A 46-year-old tenant, Usman Hammed, on Thursday appeared in an Ogudu Chief Magistrates’ Court, Lagos State, for allegedly assaulting his landlady over an electricity bill. Hammed, whose house address was not given, is being tried for assault to which he pleaded not guilty. The Prosecutor, Insp. Donjor Perezi, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on April 8 at about 9p.m. at No 25, Olaniyi Str., Agiliti, Mile 12, Lagos State. The Federal Government has said it would stop feeding state offenders in custodial centres across the country from January 1, 2024. It added that state governments must include the feeding of their inmates in federal facilities in their budgets till they can build their facilities. The Supreme Court on Thursday adjourned hearing in the suit filed by the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu until Sept. 14.
