Details emerged on how the University of Ibadan don was killed in the Moniya area of West Africa’s biggest city
The Oyo State Police Command has confirmed the murder of Prof. Opeyemi Ajewole of University of Ibadan by gunmen.
Platforms Africa reports that Ajewole, a Professor of Social and Environmental Forestry at the University of Ibadan (UI), was killed on Monday.

It was gathered that the don was killed while returning home in the Moniya area of Ibadan on Monday evening.

Another lecturer from the University who confirmed the incident to newsmen said “It is true. He was killed last night while returning home. They shot him and took his car.
He was my friend. I just confirmed from a member of his Faculty now”.
Principal Assistant Registrar, Public Communications, UI, Joke Akinpelu, was also quoted to have said, “Yes, it is true. But we are not sure if it is armed robbers or hired assassins”
Confirming the incident on Tuesday, the state Police Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, said, “The matter is under investigation. Updates would be provided accordingly, please.”
