“Jerry and I met when i was invited to join the Nigerian Bendel state boxing team in 1979. Jerry had arrived a few months earlier so he wanted to show me that he was senior and he challenged me, the way boys do. And of course i answered that challenge, the way boxers do. We sparred non stop for 2 hours with the entire stadium coming to watch.

“Finally the coaches called it a draw and we became best friends forever after. Jerry and i both made the 1984 Olympic team in Los Angeles and we both returned to Los Angeles to continue our professional boxing careers.

“In recent years I was sad to my brother suffer from a stroke and its after effects. He will forever remain in my heart as my dear brother. RIP my friend. 💔#nigerian #boxing”
