Goodbye An Unrepentant Progressive, By Adepoju Tejumaye

Haaaa, O MA SEE OO. To refer to you in the past is difficult and disconcerting for many of your confidants, friends, colleagues, mentees, and students. IT IS EXTREMELY DIFFICULT.

You were such a wonderful person. Easy going, amiable, affable, and an unrepentant progressive never interested in negativities. On the evening of Thursday, the 22nd of June, I chatted with you on several issues as usual. Your submission was: “I will see you soon”. Not knowing that would be the last time we would talk or chat. O MA SEE OOO.

Professor Lai Oso, you were with us at the Department of Mass Communication of the University of Lagos for a year (sabbatical) without pay, DUE TO IPPIS WAHALA, yet; you never for a day complained. To date, the money is still being processed by ABUJA. HAA, O MA SEE O.

You were such a selfless personality, always concerned with the progress of younger colleagues. You were such a brilliant personality, a notable COMMUNICATION EXPERT, who traversed all areas of communication sciences and excelled in all. Your level of accommodating criticisms and opposite viewpoints is unrivalled. Even when you disagreed, the highly matured and advanced way you would put your viewpoints across always melts stony hearts. You epitomized voice of reasoning in all thinkable ramifications. Gentle as a dove; never interested in picking up quarrel/fight.

Dear Sir, with tears in our eyes, and on behalf of your friends, colleagues, mentees, and students at the Department of Mass Communication, University of Lagos, we say sleep on Prof. Lai Oso, sleep well, Baba Lai Oso, rest well, our very dear ‘egbon’. Who are we to question GOD the ALMIGHTY, who are we. The Almighty God blesses your soul. The Unfailing God, be with MAMA OSO and your children as well as your loved ones. ADIEU, A WONDERFUL MENTOR.

Professor Adepoju Tejumaiye
Head of Department, Mass Communication
University of Lagos
