A federal capital territory high court in Apo has nullified the arrest and detention of Godwin Emefiele, suspended governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Bello Kawu, presiding judge, granted the order on Friday following an application by Emefiele. On June 9, President Bola Tinubu suspended Emefiele and asked him to transfer his responsibilities to Folashodun Adebisi Shonubi, deputy governor, operations directorate. EFCC Arrests 13 Chinese Over ‘illegal’ Mining In Kwara

Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have arrested 13 Chinese for alleged illegal mining in Kwara State. The suspects comprised one female and 12 males. An EFCC source said the suspects were arrested on Wednesday, at the Government Reserved Area (GRA) in Ilorin, following credible intelligence about their activities. The source added that their activities included illegal mining and non-payment of royalties to the Federal Government. The Department of State Services has said the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Godwin Emefiele had been charged to court. An Abuja High Court had on Thursday ordered the DSS to either release Emefiele or charge him to court. Reacting in a statement by its spokesperson, Peter Afunanya, the DSS said the service had in 2022 applied for a court order to detain Emefiele but noted that he got another order stopping the DSS from arresting him.
