Diezani Alison-Madueke, Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum Resources, in faraway, United Kingdom (UK) court, is now facing a case of collecting bribe while in office, upping the ante for the erstwhile powerful minister wanted in Nigeria on sundry charges of corruption.

Coming about eight years after escaping Nigeria, on the heels of a hot pursuit by the government of former President, Muhammadu Buhari, Alison-Madueke, was alleged to have collected £100,000, more than N100million in bribe.

The UK’s National Crime Agency (NCA), which said they suspected Diezani had accepted bribes in return for awarding multi-million-pound oil and gas contracts, in a statement published on its website on Tuesday, said was due to appear at Westminster magistrates court on October 2, for the case.

“She is alleged to have benefitted from at least £100,000 in cash, chauffeur-driven cars, flights on private jets, luxury holidays for her family, and the use of multiple London properties. Her charges also detail financial rewards including furniture, renovation work and staff for the properties, payment of private school fees, and gifts from high-end designer shops such as Cartier jewellery and Louis Vuitton goods.”
