FRENCH President Emmanuel Macron insists that France Ambassador will remain in Niger after the 48-hour ultimatum given the envoy by the junta to leave.
He said that France had not recognised the junta led by Gen. Abdourahamane Tchiani.
Addressing French Ambassadors at an annual Conference on Monday, August 28, Macron praised the envoy for her courage and reiterated his support for Niger’s deposed and detained President Mohamed Bazoum.
His statement comes amid tension and daily anti-French protests in Niamey with some protesters massed at the entrance of French military base, demanding that France quits Niger.
Niger soldiers are retraining the crowd from entering the French military base.
