‘3rd Staff In 12 Months,’ The Nation Journalist, Tajudeen Adigun, Is Dead

“He left office after production, but did not get home. This is exactly three months after Mr. Asa Sunday’s death, and exactly 12 months after Mr. AbdulWasiu Adeyemi, whom he was employed to replace.”

 

A journalist with The Nation newspaper, Mr. Tajudeen Adigun, is dead.

Adigun’s corpse was recovered midnight of Wednesday by the Police around GTBank branch in Daleko, Isolo, after production.

The late journalist who worked on the sub-desk of Sporting Life, sister paper of The Nation with 100 % focus on sports, left the office after the production around 10:30 pm, but did not get home.

Platforms Africa reports that Adigun was the third member of staff of the organisation to have died in the last 12 months.

“Mr. Tajudeen Adigun died exactly three months after Mr. Asa Sunday, and exactly 12 months after Mr. AbdulWasiu Adeyemi, whom he was employed to replace on sub-desk of Sporting Life, the sports paper of the Nation newspapers,” a staff of The Nation told Platforms Africa, after his anonymity was assured.

A police source at the station in Isolo confirmed the incident to Platforms Africa, noting that the corpse, which was recovered from the scene after the police were alerted around midnight of Wednesday, July 16, 2024, has been deposited at the mortuary.

The remains have been taken to Ibadan, where the family of the deceased resides for burial according to Islamic rites.

Meanwhile, emotions have been pouring among staff of the newspapers who took to the staff WhatsApp group to express feelings as they pen tributes.

“This is one death too many. Exactly 3 months after the demise of Mr. Asa Sunday, this one happened again. May God forgive their shortcomings. May He end the untimely death among us,” one of his colleagues wrote on the staff WhatsApp group.

Another wrote; “What a coincidence. It’s about this time last year that we lost our Imam AbdulWasiu Adeyemi too. 😭😭😭”

Adeyemi, the Imam of TheNation Muslim community, worked on the sub-desk too before he died. Tajudeen Adigun was said to have been employed as a replacement for Adeyemi when he died around this time last year.

Another staff member of The Nation confirmed this as he wrote on the group; “Yes, July 16, 2023. Yesterday was the 18th.”

His corpse, it was gathered, was recovered in front of GTBank Daleko near Isolo a few meters to his Isolo residence. Those who saw him when he left office after 10 pm when he finished production same day said he trekked down to Isolo from Fatai Atere where the Nation is located to Daleko Bridge. “Some have said he slumped and died others suspected he could have been attacked as he usually walk on that axis anytime he does not get any of us, his colleagues who owns a car, to offer him a lift to Isolo,” one of his colleagues told Platforms Africa.
