Taye Obateru Now Prof. of Journalism, Cultural Studies

The number of professors of communication in Nigeria has increased with the promotion of Taye Obateru, PhD, as a professor of journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.

Platforms Africa reports that Obateru, a former correspondent with Vanguard newspaper and a twin brother to Dr. Kennie Obateru, former spokesman for the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), was elevated by the University of Jos, Plateau State.

Professor Taye Obateru has practiced for many years, starting from Nigerian Herald and later as a Correspondent of the Vanguard Newspapers, before crossing to the University of Jos as an academic staff.

A prolific writer and publisher of many academic papers, Prof Obateru is the author of BROWN ENVELOPE & NEWS MEDIA PRACTICE IN NIGERIA.

Meanwhile friends and colleagues have taken to social media to pen congratulatory messages for the new professor.

One of these associates of Obateru is Rights lawyer, Richard Akinnola, who poured eulogies on the new Professor.

“Congratulations my own person, the latest professor in town, Professor Taye Obateru, professor of Journalism and Cultural studies 🎈🍾🕺🦾,” he wrote.

Corroborating Akinola’s view Ayeni Olasunkanmi Abel wrote; “Friends and family, please join me to celebrate the Bobagunwa of Eruku city, Chief Dr Taye Obateru on his elevation to the rank of Professor.

“Dr Taye C. Obateru of the University of Jos has been promoted to the rank of Professor. He is now Professor of Journalism, Media and Cultural Studies.
