. ‘First Professor of Public Relations and Advertising (PRAD) in Lagos state varsity’s history,’ What to know about new national leader of Nigeria Communication Scholars and Professionals’ Association and his emergence at 11th Annual Conference
The Association of Communication Scholars & Professionals of Nigeria [ACSPN) has elected Professor Rotimi Williams Olatunji of the Faculty of Media and Communication Studies, Lagos State University (LASU), as its National President.
Platforms Africa reports that Olatunji, the first Professor of Public Relations and Advertising (PRAD) in LASU history, emerged as the president at the ACSPN 11th Annual Conference held at the Lagos Airport Hotel Ikeja.
He would take over the mantle from Professor Umaru Pate, who had meritoriously led the group that is committed to advance the scholarly study and practice of communication by promoting and facilitating the pursuit of excellence in academic research and professional practice in Nigeria.

ACSPN on its website says it “aims to support the process of shaping communication scholarship, training and practice in Nigeria whilst complementing the work of other bodies with similar aims and building on the potentials of the field of communication in Nigeria, conscious of the needs of the country for critical inputs from communication scholars and professionals to shape a future that will promote growth and development.”
Meet the president
Prof Rotimi Williams Olatunji, PhD (born 21 February 1960) Professor of Public Relations and Advertising, and Dean, School of Communication, Lagos State University, received his Doctor of Philosophy degree (Advertising as Communication ) (2003); Master of Arts (Communication Arts), (1991) (University of Ibadan, Ibadan); and a BA (First Class Honours) (Archaeology), Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile- Ife (1989).
According to his bio published by African scientists, Olatunji’s research interests are in the areas of Advertising, Economy and Society; Health Communication, Political Communication; Media and cultural studies; consumer research, and public relations.
He is a Doctor of Philosophy External Examiner to several foreign universities including the University of Zululand, South Africa, (2018); University of Fort Hare, South Africa, (July 2018), and University of Malaya, Malaysia May 2019, and over 15 universities in Nigeria.
He is Fellow, American Academy of Marketing Science; Senior Member, African Federation of Public Relations Association; Associate registered practitioner in advertising; Member of African Council for Communication Education (ACCE); Member, Nigerian Institute of Public Relations; (NIPR) Vice-President, South-West Zone, Association of Communication Scholars and Professionals of Nigeria (ACSPN); Editor-in-Chief, LASU Journal of Humanities, Education & Law; Founding Editor, Media and Communication Review (Nigeria); Associate Editor, International Journal of Crisis Communication (USA) and a host of others.
