Drivers Need Adequate Rest Before Embarking On Journeys, FRSC Says

The Ogun Sector Commander of Federal Road Safety Corps, Akinwumi Fasaki, on Tuesday in Abeokuta advised motorists to ensure they rest well before embarking on any journey.

The Sector Commander, in a statement by the Command’s Spokesperson, Mrs Florence Okpe, urged drivers to always ensure maximum rest to be able to function properly.

”Drivers should have a rest period of between 15 and 30 minutes after four hours of driving,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Fasaki gave this advice in reaction to Monday’s accident in the state, in which four persons died and eight others sustained injuries.

The accident, which occurred around 2 p.m., involved a Toyota Hiace bus at RCC in Ogbere on the Sagamu-Benin expressway.

Okpe, who confirmed the incident, had explained that the accident was caused by fatigue on the part of the bus driver which led to loss of control.
