Nigeria has ranked as the 84th in the Energy Trilemma Index, depicting the country below average in terms of energy security and affordability.

Largest association of experts in Nigeria’s petroleum exploration and production (E&P), Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists (NAPE), which on Thursday declared this during a press conference to herald its 42nd Annual International Conference and Exhibition, maintained that that it had rallied about 2,000 delegates comprising of experts, policy makers and global oil and gas investments stakeholders for the conference to discuss this index and solutions.

Platforms Africa reports that the conference, coming up by November in Lagos, is themed; “Resolving the Nigerian Energy Trilemma: Energy Security, Sustainable Growth and Affordability.”

Fielding questions from newsmen, President of the Association, Dr. Abiodun Ogunjobi, maintained that the group is expecting “between 1,500 and 2,000 delegates in Lagos” for the conference and about 125 golfers comprising of Senators and senior leaders in the industry for the golf event in Abuja.

Ogunjobi’s view was corroborated by the President-elect, Mr. Jonhbosco Uche, who stated that NAPE would continue its drive for solutions to challenges in the Nigeria’s energy space.

“Nigeria is now ranked 84th in the Energy Trilemma index. This shows worse indices when it comes to energy security and Affordability. As the largest association of E&P in Nigeria, NAPE, with over 10,000 membership strenght cutting across professional and students members, has placed resolving the Nigerian Energy Trilemma as a priority issue for our conference.

“Our conference this year is the 42nd edition, which is going to focus on resolving the Nigerian Energy Trilemma: Energy security, sustainable growth and affordability,” Uche who doubles as the conference chairman said.

The press conference was followed by a Workshop for Media Professionals covering energy and the oil and gas sectors of the Nigerian economy.

Platforms Africa reports that the Workshop is the sixth edition of NAPE Workshops for Media Professionals reporting events in the oil and gas industry and it was themed; ‘Trends in Energy Transition and AI- Assisted Oil and Gas Reporting for Oil & Gas Media Professionals.’

Speaking about the workshop, Ogunjobi said that the NAPE’s rationale for hosting the workshop is to enrich the quality of the reportage of events in the oil and gas space by facilitating in depth deliberate conversations to address and close the gaps and opportunities in interviews, messaging, reporting and overall coverage of the oil and gas industry in Nigeria by media professionals.

He added; “The oil and gas industry is highly technical in its processes and operations. It is important that the reportage of events in the oil and gas space by oil and gas media professionals is delivered accurately, in context and with the appropriate degree of details.”

The Publicity Secretary of the Association Mr. Austin Mgbemere stated that NAPE would continue to partner with the press and other stakeholders in providing platform for learning, nurturing best practices, evolving new solutions, industry advocacy and enhancing economic development.
