World renowned Professor of Journalism and Communication Studies at the University of Lagos, Ismail Adegboyega Ibraheem, will again stamp his philosophical feet in ths field of communication as he is slated to deliver the Inaugural lecture on ‘Casino Journalism And The End of History.’

Platforms Africa reports that the Vice Chancellor of the University, Prof. Folasade T. Ogunsola, has sent out official invitation cards to scholars, practitioners, and students of journalism in Nigeria and from across the world.

He was, until his promotion, the Acting Director International Relations, Partnerships and Prospect and an associate professor at the Department of Mass Communication UNILAG.

Ibraheem who confirmed this in a reply to a message from Platforms Africa, said: “I am delighted to inform you that University of Lagos Governing Council ratified my appointment as a professor of Communications and Journalism Studies.”

The Prof, His Path and Profile: Meet Ismail Adegboyega Ibraheem, UNILAG Professor of Communication

Ismail Ibraheem is a full Professor in the area of communication and journalism studies with more than 25 years of cumulative experience in both industry and academia.

He is a graduate of the prestigious University of Leicester, United Kingdom where he obtained Master’s and PhD qualifications in mass communication specializing in media and public policy analysis between 1997 and 2004. He also attended the University of Lagos, Nigeria between 1986 and 1992 where he obtained a first degree in mass communication and masters in political science.

Prof. Ibraheem has a wealth of experience working for private, public and voluntary sector organizations in the United Kingdom and Nigeria. A former British Chevening Scholar, Dr Ibraheem is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mass Communication and Acting Director of International Relations, Partnerships and Prospects (IRPP) University of Lagos.

His industry experience includes, among others, working with global experts to mobilise academics to develop strategies to combat global poverty and development challenges as well as working as a member of a committee of experts commissioned by the Government Office for the East Midlands (GOEM) in the United Kingdom to review proposals on new ways of community governance through the Empowerment White Paper titled: Unlocking the Talent of our Communities.

His academic experience includes, among others, using evidence-based practice to develop pedagogical resources and using reflective methodology to promote interactive student focused learning in course delivery. He has supervised more than 100 postgraduate students and mentored more than 50 students who are now occupying important and strategic positions in both the industry and the academia. Dr Ibraheem is the Chair of Cable News Foundation, Nigeria, Co-Chair West Africa for Academics Stand Against Poverty (ASAP), and Member of Board, Endow Africa. His current research area straddles the following:

Media Representation of Migration, Poverty and Crime. Media Ecology Journalism Practice, Health and Development Communication.
