Nujoma played a pivotal role in Namibia’s liberation struggle against apartheid South Africa, eventually leading the country to independence on March 21, 1990. Recognised as the ‘Founding Father of the Namibian Nation’ through a 2005 Act of Parliament, his legacy remains deeply woven into the fabric of Namibia’s history.

Born in 1929, Nujoma rose from humble beginnings to become the face of Namibia’s fight for freedom. When Namibia finally achieved freedom, Nujoma became its first president, serving three terms from 1990 to 2005. His leadership was marked by efforts to unite a nation emerging from decades of oppression, fostering a sense of national identity and pride among Namibians.
