‘3.94 out of 4.00,’ Identical Twin Brothers Who Top University of Ibadan Faculty of Technology as Best Graduating Students with Identical CGPAs Speak on Milestone

Twin brothers Matthew and Matthias Busoye have achieved a remarkable academic milestone at the University of Ibadan, graduating with first-class honours and an identical Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 3.94 out of 4.00 from the Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering.

Not only did the pair top their department, but they were also named the best graduating students in the Faculty of Technology for the 2023/2024 academic session.

Announcing their achievement in a post on X.com on Wednesday, Matthias revealed that their university journey was defined by consistent academic excellence and leadership roles.

According to him, he and Matthew maintained outstanding grades from their first year, achieving GPAs of 3.84 and 3.89 in their first year, 3.92 and 3.94 in their second year, 3.95 and 3.93 in their third year, and 3.94 and 3.93 in their fourth year, respectively. They ultimately finished their fifth and final year with the same CGPA of 3.94.

In a separate post on X on Thursday, Matthew wrote: “Yesterday, I had the honour of delivering the induction speech as the Best Graduating Student of the Faculty. Rooted in my personal journey, I shared words I hope will inspire someone to rise above present struggles and keep pushing forward. Truth be told, this still feels surreal. My brother and I standing here today isn’t a reflection of being the most deserving or most diligent students—far from it. But for some reason, we are here.”

The Society of Electrical and Electronic Engineering Students (SEEEES) at the university also formally celebrated the brothers as the overall best graduating students in both their department and faculty, recognising their exceptional academic performance and leadership.

While Matthias served as Speaker of the 11th Assembly of the UI Students’ Representative Council, Matthew led as President of SEEEES-UI for the 2023/2024 session.

A widely shared photo from their graduation ceremony captured a touching moment as their mother held their hands and prayed with them in celebration of their success.
