Renowned Islamic Scholar, Dr. Sharafdeen Gbadebo Raji, Faces Defamation Charges in Ilorin

A court case has been filed against Dr. Sharafdeen Gbadebo Raji, a prominent Islamic scholar, in Ilorin for alleged defamation. The lawsuit stems from a viral video where Dr. Raji inquired about the worship practices of Ilorin indigenes, with some respondents mentioning grave and Oke Sobi worship, as well as Oro worship.

The Ilorin community had issued a 7-day ultimatum to Dr. Raji to apologize, but he failed to respond. As a result, the community proceeded to take him to court, requesting that he defend his statements.

This case is the latest in a series of Muslim-to-Muslim court cases in Ilorin, following the recent imprisonment of Alhaja Kaola for defaming Alhaji Akewugbagold.
