. ‘Awaiting NBTE’s Nod,’ Everything Rector, Registrar Said during the Board’s visit to the Polytechnic
Ekocity Polytechnic, an industry-focused institution located in Lagos, has concluded preparations to kick-start its Higher National Diploma (HND) programme, expected to commence by September this year.
This follows the recent visit of the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) accreditation team to the institution’s main campus in Ikotun, Lagos.
Platforms Africa reports that the 12-member accreditation team was led by Dr. Fatima Kabir, Director of Polytechnic Programmes. Other members include Dr. Zakari Abdullahi (Deputy Director, DQAD), Engr. K.Y. Daya (HETD), Mallam Hassan Aliyu, Dr. Ayo Aroge (Southwest Director of NBTE), among others.
The team spent over eight hours assessing the facilities and human resources put in place by the school for the commencement of the HND programmes across various departments.
One of the departments visited was the Mass Communication Department, where the institution is seeking approval to offer HND in Journalism and Media Studies and Strategic Communication. The team expressed satisfaction with the available facilities and was particularly impressed with the five studios set up for the takeoff of the HND programme.
Other courses the institution is applying to run at the HND level include: Accountancy, Business Administration, Microbiology, Chemistry, Software and Web Development, Cyber Security and Data Protection, Power and Machine Electronics, and Telecommunications.
During the exit meeting, the team leader, Dr. Fatima Kabir, commended the school’s efforts for putting in place most of the required facilities and urged the management to improve on the identified grey areas.
“When the school got its initial accreditation to run its ND programme, I was here, and this is the third time I am visiting this school. I will advise the management to work on the areas that need improvement and should not relent in the areas they are already doing well,” she said.
During the meeting, the Rector and founder of the institution, Dr. Segun Oshundairo, thanked the NBTE team for the visit.

He said, “I appreciate the NBTE team for this visit, and I want to assure you that all the recommendations made will be religiously implemented for the benefit of all.”
He added that all the facilities in place would be properly maintained in preparation for the NBTE team’s return in two years for full HND accreditation.
The Rector assured the team that all grey areas would be critically addressed without delay.
The Registrar of the school, Falana Bankole, expressed delight over the success of the accreditation process so far.
In his words: “We appreciate everyone that has contributed to the success of this accreditation programme so far, and we hope everything will fall in place at the end of this process.”
He encouraged prospective students to prepare to join the institution in September 2025, when the 2025/2026 academic session is hopefully scheduled to start.
