Registrar of the University of Medical Sciences (UNIMED), Ondo State, Mr. Ezekiel Imole Adeniran, has been assassinated by unknown assailants.
Already, the incident has plunged the institution and community into mourning.
Adeniran, who assumed office as the university’s third substantive Registrar on January 6, 2025, was reportedly found dead in his Ondo town residence in the early hours of Thursday, July 17, 2025.

A source within the university confirmed the tragic development, saying, “He was discovered lifeless in his home on Thursday morning. We hope the police will uncover what really happened.”
UNIMED Head of Media and Protocol, Mr. Isaac Oluyi, in an official statement, described the registrar’s sudden death as shocking and deeply painful.
The statement read, “The devastating news has left the entire university community in mourning.
“He was present at work on Monday, July 14. The circumstances of his death remain unclear at this point.”
The statement further paid tribute to Adeniran’s commitment to the institution, stating, “He served with dedication and integrity until his untimely death.
“Our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time. May his soul rest in peace.”
UNIMED’s Head of Human Resources, Mr. M.A. Akinkuade, also expressed heartfelt condolences, describing the late registrar as a loyal and diligent official whose impact on the university’s development will not be forgotten.
Meanwhile, police in Ondo have confirmed that the registrar was murdered.
State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Olayinka Ayanlade told newsmen that the case was reported at the Fanibi Division and investigations are ongoing.
The PPRO said, “From initial findings, two men reportedly emerged from a nearby bush and forced an unknown substance into another individual’s mouth.
“We are investigating the full circumstances surrounding the attack.
“While the precise location of the assault is still being determined, police have pledged to pursue all leads and bring the perpetrators to justice.”
The police spokesperson urged members of the public with useful information to assist the police in their efforts.
