‘After Dog Bite,’ Ex-Barca Player Carlos Perez Hospitalised

Former Barcelona forward, Carles Perez, has been hospitalised following a freak accident in which he sustained a dog bite to his genitals.

The 27-year-old, currently playing for Greek side Aris Thessaloniki on loan from Celta Vigo, was reportedly attempting to separate his own dog from another when the incident occurred.

According to The Mirror on Thursday, Perez required six stitches for the injury and was treated at a private hospital in Panorama, a suburb near Thessaloniki.

While the injury is not considered life-threatening, he remains under observation and may require surgery. His return to football is uncertain at this stage.

The incident has ruled him out of Aris Thessaloniki’s UEFA Europa Conference League qualifier against Araz-Naxçıvan PFK. The Greek side is attempting to overturn a 2-1 deficit in the tie.

Aris manager Marinos Ouzounidis confirmed Perez was part of his plans for the match prior to the injury.

“Carles would have been in the starting line-up. This incident happened but we can’t dwell on it any longer. My mind is working on alternative solutions and we have worked on them,” Ouzounidis said.

The manager also emphasised the importance of team resilience, adding, “That’s why I insist that it’s important to have players with personality. So I’m interested in the group of players that I will have at my disposal, to give the most they can.”

Perez, who spent eight years at Barcelona, is expected to spend time on the sidelines as he recovers.
