President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has announced that Nigeria met its 2025 revenue target in August, adding that the economy has stabilised and the government no longer needs to borrow to fund its programmes.
The President disclosed this on Tuesday when he received members of The Buhari Organisation (TBO), made up of leaders of the defunct Congress for Progressives Change (CPC), at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
“Today, I can stand here before you to brag, Nigeria is not borrowing. We have met our revenue target for the year, and we met it in August,” Tinubu said.
“The economy has stabilised; nobody is trading a piece of paper for an exchange rate anymore. When I took over, it was N1,900 to a dollar. It’s N1,450 now. Rates are stabilising now, you don’t have to know a CBN governor … all you have to do is export and import and create jobs for the people,” he added.

Tinubu reaffirmed that his administration’s priority remains fixing the economy, creating jobs, and bringing hope to Nigerians. He also said the government has launched a massive agricultural mechanisation programme aimed at food sovereignty, security, and poverty reduction.
The President dismissed concerns over U.S. President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs, insisting that Nigeria is building a more diversified economy through agriculture and non-oil revenues.
On political appointments, Tinubu thanked TBO members for their patience, assuring them that more ambassadorial and other appointments would be made. He also promised to immortalise former President Muhammadu Buhari by building a “Buhari House,” which he described as a “house of joy and prosperity.”
The delegation was led by former Nasarawa State Governor Tanko Al-Makura and Speaker of the House of Representatives Abbas Tajudeen. Both men pledged the “unconditional support” of CPC members for Tinubu’s administration and his 2027 re-election bid.
Abbas commended Tinubu for the respect accorded Buhari at his passing, describing it as unprecedented in Nigeria’s history. Al-Makura also expressed gratitude for the befitting burial and said Tinubu and Buhari’s alliance was built on discipline, justice, and unity.
He pledged the group’s full loyalty to Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the 2027 elections.
