McPherson University, one of the leading private Universities in Nigeria, has held its fifth convocation ceremony where a total of 92 graduates were given certificates including 12 with First Class Honours.
Vice-Chancellor of the University, Professor Adeniyi Agunbiade, who, in an address at the Convocation held at the school’s premises, said this, maintained that the University had also secured an approval from the National Universities Commission (NUC) to run a Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) Degree Programme and Part-Time Degree Programmes for McU.
“I am glad to report that, by the special grace of the Almighty God, we got approval for the establishment of Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences which began operation with the Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc.) Degree programme with effect from the 2019/2020 academic session. This was after the rigorous verification exercise conducted by the National Universities Commission (NUC),” Agunbiade said.
“The Nursing Programme is in its second year in the current (2020/2021) academic session. In addition, I am pleased to inform this audience that we have also got approval to commence part-time academic programmes in the following courses: B. Sc. Accounting; B. Sc. Banking and Finance; B. Sc. Business Administration, and B. Sc. Marketing.
Others, he continued; “are B. A. History and International Studies; B. A. English; B. A. Religious Studies; B. Sc. Economics; and B. Sc. International Relations.”
Giving a breakdown of the number of graduates produced by the school at the fifth convocation, Agunbiade said; “Twelve (12) of them made First Class Honours (13%), Thirty-three (33) are in the Second Class Upper Division (35.9%) while Forty-one (41) are graduating with Second Class Lower Division (44.6%). Others fall into the Third Class (6.5%) category.
“I am delighted to report that ADUEKPE Precious Edinaeval, Matriculation number 160301003 of the Department of Accounting and Finance (Accounting Programme), emerged the overall best graduating student with a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 4.97 (the highest in the last four sessions) while CHIDUEME Emmanuel Chukwuemelie, Matriculation number 170103002 of the Department of Religious Studies emerged the second best with a CGPA of 4.84. OLATUNJI Mercy Temilola, Matriculation number 160307013 of the Department of Mass Communication emerged the third best with a CGPA of 4.76.
“It should be mentioned on this auspicious occasion that ADUEKPE Precious Edinaeval not only came out as the overall best graduating student in this Noble Class of 2020 graduating students, and scoring the highest CGPA in the history of McPherson University, she also added another cap of becoming a Chartered Accountant while in the 300 level of her course of studies here at McPherson University.
Analysis of the results presented above indicates that the best twelve (12) students in this Noble Class of 2020 consist of six girls and six boys.
“The overall best graduating student being a lady, Precious ADUEKPE followed by a man, Emmanuel CHIDUEME. The third best, a lady, Mercy OLATUNJI, followed by a man, Prince OLOYEDE. The order continues till the eleventh, and twelfth being a lady and a man, respectively.”
Professor Michael Faborode, our erudite and distinguished Professor of Agricultural and Environmental Engineering, delivered the Convocation Lecture on “Sustainable Development, Post COVID-19: Is Nigeria’s Growing Population a Curse or Multiple Blessings.”
Dignitaries at the event include Visitor to the University and the General Overseer of the Foursquare Gospel Church in Nigeria, Rev. Sam Aboyeji, and his wife, Bisi; the Acting Pro-Chancellor and Acting Chairman of Council, Professor James Nda Jacob as well as the Executive Committee Members of Parents Consultative Forum (PCF) led by the Chairman, Rev. Niyi Oloyede.
