. ‘Three emergencies at three different locations,’ LASEMA gives updates, graphical details of the accidents
Lagos, Nigeria’s commercial capital, was on Wednesday rocked by three different emergencies that involved a two storey building, two BRT buses and a 40-foot container at three different locations of the metropolis.
A report by Platforms Africa reports quoted the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) to have confirmed the incident.

Head of the public affairs unit of LASEMA, Nosa Okunbor, in a statement on Wednesday, noted that many people were injured while vehicular movements were impaired in the three separate locations of the three accidents.
In three preliminary reports sent to Platforms Africa, Okunbor revealed the causes of the three occurrences.

” The BRT bus headed inward Iyana Ipaja from Igando in attempts to avoid crushing a commercial motorcyclist with passengers plying the BRT corridor illegally, collided with an oncoming BRT bus,” he said.
The second accident happened at Mile 12 inward Ikorodu where Okunbor said; “the LRT discovered that a 40-foot container had fallen from an articulated truck, registration number unknown, and completely shut down the road inwards Ikorodu.
“Investigations by the LRT revealed that the driver lost control while reversing on the bridge, causing the truck to fall uncontrollably on it’s side, losing it’s 40-foot cargo in the process.”

The third incident, which happened in Alaba, caused destruction of properties.

According to Okunbor, “On arrival at the incident scene, it was observed that a two-storey building comprising of six units of three bedroom flats, was engulfed in fire at the aforementioned location.
“Further investigations revealed that the fire which cause could not-yet-be ascertained, reportedly started in the kitchen of the front flat at the topmost floor of the building before spreading to other parts.”

PRELIMINARY REPORT REGARDING A ROAD TRAFFIC ACCIDENT INVOLVING TWO BRT BUSES AT IYANA IPAJA INWARD PLEASURE
In response to distress calls to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 2339hrs, the Agency activated it’s Dolphin Response Team from Igando Base.
Upon arrival of Agency’s Response Team at the incident scene, the LRT discovered a road traffic accident involving two BRT buses, registration numbers unknown, at the aforementioned location.
Further investigations at the scene revealed that the BRT bus headed inward Iyana Ipaja in attempts to avoid crushing a commercial motorcyclist with passengers plying the BRT corridor illegally, collided with an oncoming BRT bus.
CASUALTY REPORT;
No lives were lost as a result of the incident. However, passengers of both buses reportedly suffered various degrees of injuries and were all taken to the nearest hospital before arrival of Agency’s Response Team.
ACTION TAKEN;
Two tow trucks were activated to evacuate the accident BRT buses off the road.

Recovery Operation concluded.

PRELIMINARY REPORT REGARDING A TRUCK ACCIDENT AND FALLEN CONTAINER AT MILE 12, INWARD IKORODU
Following distress calls to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 0532hrs, the Agency activated it’s Tiger Response Team from the Command and Control Centre, Alausa.
Upon arrival of the Tiger Response Team at the incident scene by 0535hrs, the LRT discovered that a 40-foot container had fallen from an articulated truck, registration number unknown, and completely shut down the road inwards Ikorodu.
Investigations by the LRT revealed that the driver lost control while reversing on the bridge, causing the truck to fall uncontrollably on it’s side, losing it’s 40-foot cargo in the process.
CASUALTY REPORT
No loss of lives nor injuries were recorded as a result of the incident.
ACTION TAKEN;
Agency’s Response Team coordinated the operation and activated appropriate safety measures for safety of all emergency responders while the operation lasted.
The LRT activated Traffic Control Measures alongside LASTMA Officials available at the incident scene to ensure free-flow of traffic during the operation.
The LRT activated the Agency’s heavy-duty sophisticated equipment-giant forklift, and articulated flatbed truck to recover the fallen 40-foot container and ferry the cargo off the incident scene.
OPERATION STATUS;
The fallen 40-foot container has been recovered off the road with aid of the Agency’s heavy-duty equipment (Goliath-giant forklift).
The affected truck has also been recovered off the road with aid of LASTMA tow-truck and has subsequently been taken to LASTMA office in Oshodi.
Road is now set free for vehicular activities.
Recovery operation concluded and LRT headed back to base.

PRELIMINARY REPORT REGARDING THE FIRE OUTBREAK AT 8, DUBLLIC AVENUE, MOSEFEJO OJO ALABA, LAGOS.
Following distress calls to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency, LASEMA, via the 767/112 Toll-Free Emergency lines at 1052hrs, the Agency activated it’s Dolphin Response Team from the Igando Base.
On arrival at the incident scene, it was observed that a two-storey building comprising of six units of three bedroom flats, was engulfed in fire at the aforementioned location.
Further investigations revealed that the fire which cause could not-yet-be ascertained, reportedly started in the kitchen of the front flat at the topmost floor of the building before spreading to other parts.
ACTION TAKEN;
Quick intervention of the LRT and LASG Fire & Rescue Team at the scene, the fire was quickly curtailed from spreading to other parts of the building.
*CASUALTY REPORT*
No casualties nor injuries were recorded during the incident.
DAMAGE REPORT:
The fire completely consumed one out of the six units of three bed room flats resulting in loss running into millions of naira.
OPERATION STATUS
The fire has been totally extinguished due to quick intervention of the LRT, and Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service.
Dampening down has been concluded.
Operation concluded. LRT headed back to Base.
