An award-winning communication lecturer and author, Dr. Wasiu Tejuoso, has emerged the first elected Head, Department of Mass Communication, Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Southwest Nigeria.
Platforms Africa reports that Tejuoso, an alumnus of the department, emerged after a keenly contested maiden election in line with the new Polytechnic Act of 2019, where he defeated his opponent and classmate, Dr. Shola Adeosun.
The newly elected Head of Department has earlier been appointed by the Management of the Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY) as Acting Head of the pacesetter department in Media and Communication Studies.

By this victory at the elections, Tejuoso now becomes the substantive head of the department pending the ratification of the elections result by the institution Academic Board in line with the provisions of the Act.
The Head of the Department speaking after the victory, expressed gratitude to all members of staff who came to exercise their civic duty at the polls, despite the unfortunate incidence of the recent death of the department studio technician, Lukman Osayemi, which has weighed down almost all the staff members of the department.
Reiterating his vision towards restoring the glory of the department as the pioneer in Media Studies among Polytechnics, the new HoD asserted that he would operate an open-door policy where every member of staff will have the opportunity to contribute positively to the development of the department.

The Department Head, who is also alumnus of the polytechnic described the victory as designed by God, assuring that he would do everything positively possible to retain the glory of the department as established by the founding fathers.
Reactions
The emergence of Tejuoso has spontenously been greeted by reactions from staff and alumni of the department.
Alhaji Abdulrahman Maku who described Dr. Tejuoso’s emergence as long overdue, maintained that he was confident in the HoD’s ability to restore the glory.
“This is long overdue. He has been lecturing even before he graduated,” Maku said confirming Tejuoso’s brilliance, which was evident in his efforts at lecturing his mates at tutorials while he was still a student.
Like Maku, a member of the School of Communication and Information Technology, which houses the department, described the victory as the hands of God.
He challenged Tujuoso to live up to expectations of those who voted him in as he prayed to God to “guide and guard his steps.”
