Garba Shehu, his spokesperson, announced his demise on Sunday in a post on X.

“The family of the former president has announced the passing on of the former president, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, this afternoon in a clinic in London.
May Allah accept him in Aljannatul Firdaus, Amin,” he wrote.

1. Buhari was born on 17 December 1942, in Daura, Katsina State, Nigeria. He was the twenty third child of Mallam Hardo Adamu, originally from Dumurkul in Mai’Adua and Zulaihat. Other reports said he was born through the thirteenth pregnancy by his mother.
2. Named after ninth-century Islamic scholar Muhammad al-Bukhari, the former president was rumoured to have died in 2025 after a former governor of Ekiti state, Ayo Fayose, placed an advert of his obituary on front pages of Nigerian newspapers during preparation for the election.
3. Muhammadu Buhari was a Nigerian retired politician who served as the president of Nigeria from 2015 to 2023.

6. In December 2014, he emerged as the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress party for the 2015 general election.
7. Buhari won the election, defeating incumbent President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan.
