South Africa’s Mineral Resources Minister, Gwede Mantashe, was admitted to hospital after contracting the coronavirus about a week ago, the presidency said in a statement.
The move advised by a family doctor, the statement read, would enable better medical attention and monitoring for Mantashe, reports Reuters.
This came as more people continue to demand that schools should be shut again.
South Africa now has an average of 30,000 COVID-19 cases daily.
