NNPP Suspends Four Federal Lawmakers Over ‘Anti-party Activities’

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) in Kano state says it has suspended four of its national assembly members over alleged anti-party activities.

Announcing the decision on Monday, Hashimu Dungurawa, NNPP chair in Kano, said their suspension followed “recent actions” that contradicted the party’s principles and objectives.

The affected lawmakers are Kawu Sumaila, senator representing Kano south; Abdullahi Sani Rogo, lawmaker representing Rogo federal constituency; Abdullahi Rurum, representing Rano/Kibiya; and Ali Maadakin Gini, representing Dala federal constituency.

“These members were elected under the NNPP platform but have recently been acting contrary to the party’s wishes, beliefs and values,’’ NAN quoted Dungurawa as saying.

The party chairman claimed the suspended members received automatic tickets during elections, but later acted against the party’s interests after securing their positions.

He also referenced a recent incident in which Sumaila reportedly launched projects at his university without involving party members, highlighting it as evidence of “anti-party activities”.

Dungurawa said the party is open to dialogue, adding that the affected lawmakers could be reinstated after “thorough” investigation into the allegations.
