Banks Close 2m Accounts Over BVN, NIN, Others

Commercial banks in Nigeria closed 2.021 million bank accounts in the first quarter of 2024, Q1’24, to clean their books of questionable accounts and comply with regulatory orders on the linkage of bank accounts to the National Identity Number, NIN. CBN To freeze Bank Accounts Without BVN, NIN

The Central Bank of Nigeria says it will freeze accounts without a Bank Verification Number or National Identification Number from April 2024.  This was contained in a circular signed by the country’s apex bank and made available to commercial banks. NIN-SIM: Disconnect Unlinked Subscribers, Govt Tells MTN, Others

The Nigerian Government has directed all Telcos including MTN Glo, and 9Mobile, to strictly bar outgoing calls for telephone lines that have not complied with the policy of linking National Identification Number (NIN) to the Subscriber Identification Module (SIM) from the 4th of April, 2022.
