2023: Kantigi wins Niger PDP guber primary, defeats 4 other aspirants

Minna, Niger State: Alhaji Isah Liman Kantigi, has emerged the winner of the gubernatorial election held by the opposition People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in Niger state.

The primary poll was to hold on Wednesday, but due to the protest by the other five contestants who insisted on verification of authenticity of delegates list via means of identification, the primary wad shifted to Thursday.

Kantigi, inveriably defeated the other aspirants by polling 667 votes.

His closest rival, Idris Sani Kutigi, polled 114 votes, followed by the immediate past Director of Petroleum Resources, DPR, in the state, Abubakar Isah Jankara,21 votes, Abdulrahman Gimba, 3 votes, Sidi Abdul, zero vote, while 3 votes were invalid.

Declaring the results, the Deputy Governor of Bayelsa state who is also the Panel head, Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, said Kantigi, having polled the required majority of lawful votes, had been declared winner of the primary

Ewhrudjakpo appealed to other contestants to join hands with the winner in order to ensure the victory of the party in 2023 governorship election in the state.

As at the time of filling this report, the guber primary of the ruling APC, was still underway.
