More media organisations in Nigeria, including Channels Televion, have begun to key into the countdown for the delivery of Port Harcourt refinery.

Team Lead of Platforms Africa, Adeola Yusuf, had, in separate interviews on TVC News Nigeria and News Central TV on Wednesday, November 29, flagged off the countdown by Platforms Africa under its Report Until Something Happens (RUSH) series.

With a report titled “Eyes On Port Harcourt Refinery’s Deadline,” Channels TV showed how it was sacrisant for the government to deliver its promise to deliver the refinery.

Leading development-focused media group, Platforms Africa, has flagged off a countdown on the promised-date by the Nigerian government to deliver the Port Harcourt refinery.

Team Lead of the Africa-focused group, Adeola Yusuf, who announced this in separate interviews on TVC News Nigeria and News Central TV, declared that this social service is a part of Platforms Africa’s contribution to the envisaged success on the project’s delivery.

Nigeria secured $1bn Afreximbank loans for Port Harcourt refinery’s repair and president Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (oil); Group Chief Executive Officer, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mallam Mele Kyari; and the Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refinery have all promised that the asset will be delivered by December.

“Before now, there is a trust deficit in the systemn bouyed by failed promises by government officials to deliver on certain projects or polices. This time around, everyone that matters in the Port Harcourt Refinery rehabilitation has promised Nigerians that the project will be delivered by December, 2023. As a socially responsible media group, Platforms Africa has started a countdown as our contribution to the expected success,”Adeola  Yusuf said.

“The government will, through this, know that consciousness of the people has been raised, and this will help tremedously to put everyone on his/her toes. This countdown, which started on Wednesday, November 29, is to continue till the last day of December,” Adeola Yusuf, said.

Port Harcourt refinery to be ready in December 2023, says Lokpobiri

Heineken Lokpobiri, the Minister of State for Petroleum (oil) has said that the Port Harcourt Refinery (PHRC) will be ready by December 2023.

Kyari Confirms Port Harcourt refinery will start working in December

The Group Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL), Mele Kyari has confirmed that the Port Harcourt refinery will start working in December 2023.

We’ll hold NNPCL responsible for PH refinery December deadline’–Minister

Ahead of the planned resumption of production at the Port Harcourt Refinery Company in December 2023, the federal government says it will continue to hold NNPC Ltd responsible for the timeline announced to Nigerians.

The federal government in August 2023 announced that the Port Harcourt refinery will commence operations in December 2023, while rehabilitation works were in top gear to ensure that both Warri and Kaduna refineries resume operations by the end of 2024.

Who built the Port Harcourt refinery?

Port Harcourt Refinery, was built in 1965 under the then Prime Minister, Alhaji Abubakar Tafawa Balewa (1912-1966; GCFR). It was commissioned, operated and managed by SHELL BP. The capacity was 35,000 barrel per day. However, its ownership passed to the Federal Government in 1970 under General Yakubu Gowon (85; GCFR)..
