Ill-Fated Plane That Flew Power Minister To Ibadan Violated Rules – NSIB

Here are findings by the Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau as more questions are being raised on why Adebayo Adelabu, a Nigerian minister who escaped death by the whiskers, blatantly denied the accident

The Nigerian Safety Investigation Bureau (NSIB) has revealed that the plane crash involving Flints Aero conveying the Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu from Abuja to Ibadan, Oyo State, last month violated the permit regulation of non-commercial flight.

Platforms Africa, which broke the news reported that the minister denied the plane crash, tagging it “all lies.”

Meanwhile in a preliminary report, according to the bureau’s spokesperson Tunji Oketunbi, the plane crash occurred as the ill-fated plane operated in violation of the rules.

According to the report, Flint Aero had been issued a permit for noncommercial flight which disallows the aircraft to carry passengers, cargo, or mail for hire or reward

The NSIB amongst other recommendations called on the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency to strictly ensure airport operational hours as published in the relevant aeronautical information publication and not permit extensions beyond the airport limitations.

Monday’s report came about one month after the incident with the NSIB promising to probe the matter. There was no death in the incident.

It would recalled that a private jet conveying Nigerian minister of Power, Adebayo Adelabu crash-landed on November 3.

The incident, Platforms Africa gathered, occurred at Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport in Ibadan, Oyo State, Southwestern Nigeria on Friday night.

The HS25 aircraft operated by Flint Aero, also had some of the Minister’s aides onboard, the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) reported during a news bulletin monitored by Platforms Africa.

According to report, the aircraft departed Abuja Airport for Ibadan, the Oyo State capital at about 6:41pm and crash-landed into the bush during an effort to land at about 7:21pm close to the airport runway in Ibadan.

Adedibu’s reaction on WhatsApp

The real cause of the incident is yet to be established while official statement from the aviation authority is yet to come.

The Minister has, however, reacted to the incident maintaining that the report was fake and that he was alive, safe and sound.

“There is nothing o. It’s all lies. Thank you,” he said on a power sector stakeholders forum after the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) also reported that he was on board the private jet.

“I am alive , safe, sound , hale, and hearty,” another power sector stakeholder, Kunle Kola-Olubiyo, quoted him to have said.

Meanwhile, this reaction has continued to stir confusion as the NTA also reported in its 2 pm network news that Mr. Adelabu was on board the ill-fated private jet.

“So far, he did not deny that he was on board. He, in fact, did not clearly say that the incident did not happen. What the minister said was that he was alive, and that nothing happened to him,” Adeola Yusuf, a communication expert said, adding; “more lights are expeceted to be thrown on this as events unfold.”
