Ijebu! City or people? What comes to your mind when you hear this word?
Well, the name serves the two purposes. It is the name for special geographical location on the eastern part of Ogun state, Southwest Nigeria. It is also the name the aborigines of the location are called.
These people are generally known to be outstanding when it comes to commerce, but they also stand shoulder high when it comes to education.

This article is accompanied by a picture of the Ijebus m who can not be forgotten in history. They were the first generation of educated Ijebu, those who could read and write. They were the prominent Ijebu in the Colony of Lagos. They include Otunba Payne of Orange House now (Central Bank). They championed and protected the interest of Ijebu at home and abroad.
