Who-Said-What: Salahudden Tahir; Amina Danmadami; Francis Nwaochei and Felix Obike; Names and faces at a press conference to conclude the 47th NAICE in Lagos
The Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) has declared that many feats being enjoyed in the Nigeria’s oil industry, including the marginal field programme, were the brainchildren of its past conferences.
Promising to do more during a press conference to mark the conclusion of the 47th Nigeria Annual International Conference (NAICE) organised by the Nigerian Council of the society, Chairman, Nigerian Council of the SPE, Salaudeen Tahir, told Platforms Africa that his group would soon release communique of this year’s NAICE and those of the last four years.
Maintaining that advancement of oil and gas production to meet World’s energy needs is the focus of the group, Tahir, who in company of other prominent members, addressed journalists, maintained that the “professional association for petroleum industry practitioners worldwide, with over 127,000 members across 145 countries,” has been doing this in Nigeria since 1977.

Platforms Africa reports that other top SPE members at the press conference are;o
NAICE 2024 Conference Chairperson, Magdalene Umoh; In-coming Chairperson, SPE Nigeria, Amina Danmadami; In-coming Vice Chairman SPE Nigeria, Francis Nwaochei and Immediate past Chairman SPE Nigeria, Felix Obike.
In his words: “The SPE helmsman said after wide consultations and understudying the industry outlook, SPE Nigeria Council beamed the spotlight this year on the need to ensure a viable integrated midstream and downstream sector as the energy transition gathers towards enhancing the sustainability of the upstream oil and gas sector.
The NAICE 2024 theme as resolved is, “Petroleum Industry Value Chain Optimization: The Inevitability of Midstream and Downstream Development.” To ensure sustainability, optimization of the petroleum industry value chain is necessary, and the development of the midstream and downstream sectors plays a significant role in achieving this optimization. The midstream sector involves the transportation, storage, and wholesale marketing of crude oil and natural gas, while the downstream sector focuses on refining crude oil into various petroleum products and distributing them to end consumers. Without an effective, efficient, and vibrant midstream and downstream sector, investments in the upstream become meaningless. “Our God-given natural resources will forever remain in its raw state.

“Overall, the optimization of the midstream and downstream sectors of the petroleum industry value chain is essential for attracting investments to the upstream, achieving operational efficiency across the value chain, and meeting the demands of the market in a cost-effective manner. It allows for the smooth flow of resources, maximizes the value of hydrocarbons, and ensures a reliable supply of petroleum products to consumers.”

The SPE Chairman concluded that NAICE 2024, which provided insights into the state of the industry, policy direction, and strategy from government decision-makers and business leaders, has a communique, which will, upon completion; be made available. “No only this, our communiques fir the past five conferences wwill also be released,” he declared.
‘How, When Onyeka Onwenu Will be Buried’
Corroborating Tahir’s view, the in-coming Chairperson, SPE Nigeria, Engr. Mrs. Amina Danmadami, said that the society has achieved a lot in the last 47 years.
‘A part of our achievements as a group is the marginal field programme of the government which was a solution suggested at one of our past conferences,” she said in a response to a question by Platforms Africa.
