An Indigenous firm, DigGeoNaija, has officially unveiled its plans to use technology to make Nigeria’s geosites accessible to global audience through virtual tours and interactive digital platforms.
Wikipedia defines a geosite as a particular geological heritage asset. Geological heritages are intrinsically important sites or culturally important sites offering information or insights into the evolution of the Earth; or into the history of science, or that can be used for research, teaching, or reference.

At the virtual unveiling ofDigGeoNaija, its Chief Executive Officer, Dr Kamaldeen Omosanya, said the firm is poised to use digiization, inventorisation and commercialisation to foster sustainable tourism practice while driving economic growth.
These he highlighted would lead to conservation of our geosites and
promoting long-term environmental
stewardship.
Omosanya who lamented the inability of people to visit geosites as a result of insecurity across the country said the impediment could be removed through using various technology such as Aritificial Intelligence (AI), Virtual Reality (VR), for virtual tours providing a modern way to explore our geological heritage.

He noted that the firm since inception has completed comprehensive inventory of 86 Geosites, completed with
high-resolution images, 3D models, and detailed descriptions, accessible through a centralized cloudbased platform.
He also added that the firm is contributing to the economy through its activities and also by offering paid internship to its interns.
