Meanwhile, Nigerians have begun to react to the event with a scholar cum activist, Omoniyi Ibietan, PhD, describing the Bobrisky phenomenon as the “rubbish” that has migrated to the realm of scholarship.
Ibietan, Platforms Africa reports, took to his verified Facebook page and wrote; “Scholars are rethinking Bobrisky at the African Studies Centre, University of Michigan, and at the University of Kansas, in the United States of America
“The Bobrisky phenomenon has migrated to the realm of scholarship. I took interest in this discourse because of my academic orientation and interest. I was a student, principally, of literature and history, then sociology, before I finally landed in communication management. The other reason is the scholarly pedigree of some of those involved in the planned conversation. Prof. Ebenezer Obadare is a leading light of the scholarship that has come to define the fecundity and brilliance of our civilisation.

“I met Prof. Femi Taiwo while I was the Regional Media Researcher for Freedom House. I was covering the Niger Delta. Prof. Taiwo is a scholar, through and through. He’s delivering the keynote speech at the forum. Prof. James Yeku of the University of Kansas, by whom I came to the knowledge of this event, is one of the most published Nigeria teachers and scholars in the intersection of literature, digital media and culture in Africa and its diaspora.
‘Dear friends, if you are interested in listening to the ‘rubbish’ these teachers, researchers and scholars have to say about this phenomenon, please join the conversation through the link – It’s on 2nd November 2024 at 10.00am, US Central Time. Good luck!”
