10th grid failure from the eleven months so far used in 2024 plunges Nigeria into an outage
Nigeria’s electricity transmission system, also known as the national power grid failed once again on Thursday just two days after a previous breakdown.
Platforms Africa reports that the latest grid collpase, which rocked Nigeria precisely at 11:29 a.m., marked the 10th time of such failure that plunged many parts of the country into darkness.
‘3rd Time in 5 Days,’ National Grid Collapses Again
Data from the Nigerian System Operator showed a dramatic drop in output from 21 active electricity generation companies, from 2,323.65 megawatts (MW) at 11:00 a.m. to zero by 11:29 a.m.
Both Ikeja Electric and Eko Electricity Distribution Company (EKEDC) confirmed the collapse, assuring customers they are working with stakeholders to restore power swiftly.
