FIRE-FOR-FIRE: K1 De Ultimate, King Saheed Osupa Exchange Banters In Fresh Fuji Controversy

. Supporters take debate, crossfire to social media

The Fuji music industry is embroiled in fresh supremacy war that has already stirred the exchange of banters between Alhaji Wasiu Ayinde Marshall, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate and Alhaji Saheed Osupa also known as KSO.

Platforms Africa reports that the bickering has also polarised the Fuji followership with supporters of the two musicians taking the debate and crossfire to the social media.

The media aide of K1 De Ultimate and aide to the KSO have already taken some shots at each other, accusing the other party of being the aggressor.

K1’s Salvo

Kunle Rasheed, Media aide to Fuji Musician, Wasiu Ayinde, popularly known as K1 De Ultimate, has weighed in on the ongoing feud between Saheed Osupa and K1.

Platforms Africa reports that Rasheed expressed his bewilderment over Osupa’s actions, stating that “I genuinely don’t understand why Akorede Okunola Saheed, popularly knows as Ouspa, initiated another conflict in the Fuji music scene”.

The tension began when Osupa targeted K1 following the latter’s statement about being the ‘Owner of Fuji music’. Rasheed questioned why Osupa would take offence to a comment K1 has been making for long.

“Now, I’m wondering, how could that statement ignite such a feud if not due to bad blood? Is Osupa just waking up from slumber to hear what K1 has been saying for so long? How has that affected a genre with many practitioners holding various titles?” he said.

He pointed out that Osupa, despite having spent hours with K1 negotiating peace in the past, chose to reignite a fued.

“I can’t help but wonder why Osupa decided to attack someone with whom he spent over five hours negotiating peace,” he added.

Rasheed also took issue with Osupa’s self-proclaimed title as the ‘King of Fuji,’ asking why his claim is accepted when many legendary musicians, such as KSA (King Sunny Ade), Ebenezer Obey, Kollington Ayinla, and Sir Shina Peters are still alive and active.

He said, “If Osupa believes that K1 was wrong to call himself the owner of Fuji music, why is no one questioning Osupa’s claim to be the king of music, especially when legends like KSA (King Sunny Ade), Ebenezer Obey, Kollington Ayinla, Sir Shina Peters, and many other seasoned veteran musicians are still alive and active?”

“It’s disheartening that those who choose to throw stones often forget about the glass in their own backyard. I have nothing against anyone in Fuji land who wants to be known and addressed as something. What I don’t like is the unnecessary contest that comes with it.”

Rasheed further said that Osupa’s musical talents, despite being highly regarded by fans, haven’t translated into substantial financial success. He added that Osupa’s controversies often lead to attention, but not the long-term prosperity that should come with genuine artistry.

“From what I’ve observed over the years, the belief that Osupa is a gifted lyricist and musician has not in any way translated into financial success for him. The only time his supposed fans translate his ‘gift’ into success is when he decides to take on another Fuji act in a contest that does not define true love for his art,’ he said.

He urged Osupa to embrace peace and let go of the constant feuding.

“Why don’t you live and let others live? The world is fast moving from feudland to peaceland, and as such, Osupa should learn to live in peace and harmony with others, except there is a diety that promised him fame through controversy,” he said.

Rasheed also addressed the broader issue of what constitutes ‘good’ music.

He emphasized that music doesn’t need to be laden with deep meaning to be successful – it should primarily be entertainment.

“Who even lied to him that he sings so well when the essence of music is purely for entertainment purposes? If we can rock to rap music that I know no words to or listen to Awilo Logomba or even Black Magic’s Lepa Gawu, then what have good lyrics got to do with music? Don’t get me wrong, I am not against the weaving of words together to bring out quality sound, but many believe erroneously that this is what music is all about. Even in the modern world, how many of these so-called Fuji fans can beat their chests and say they know what Burna Boy or even Wizkid are saying in their various songs except the chorus Let no one be fooled. Music does not need to teach morals; its primary role is entertainment. If it does teach morals, then it’s just an added advantage,” he concluded.

Osupa Fires Back

Reacting, aide to Saheed Osupa, Tunde Busari, slammed K1 De Ultimate for usurping the title of creator of music exclusively meant for late Alhaji Sikiru Ayinde Barrister.

Re: Setting the Record Straight: A Scathing Rebuttal to Kunle Rasheed’s Misguided Defence

Kunle Rasheed’s recent statement attempting to defend King Wasiu Ayinde’s self-proclaimed title as the “owner of Fuji music” is laughable and misleading. It’s astonishing that Mr. Rasheed would try to rewrite history and dismiss the well-documented facts about Fuji music’s origins.

While I won’t give unnecessary credence to Mr. Kunle Rasheed, as he doesn’t deserve it, it’s safe to say that his watery write-up as an acclaimed Fuji entertainment reporter for over 20 years could only produce a concocted, watery piece like this.

King Saheed Osupa Akorede has consistently attributed Fuji music’s creation to its true pioneer, the late Dr. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister. This verifiable historical fact contradicts Rasheed’s claims.

Rasheed’s feeble attempt to tarnish Osupa’s reputation and question his financial success exposes his desperation. It’s ironic that Rasheed accuses Osupa of seeking fame through controversy when Wasiu Ayinde’s divisive claims sparked this debate.

Kunle Rasheed’s assertion that music’s primary purpose is entertainment downplays its educational value. Music educates, inspires, and preserves cultural heritage. His statement, “Who needs good lyrics when people can enjoy music without understanding the words?”” Undermines meaningful lyrics. Rasheed’s claim that Osupa’s lyricism hasn’t translated into financial success is flawed. Artistic value and commercial success differ. Osupa’s dedication, preservation of Fuji’s legacy, and contributions can not be measured solely by financial gain.

Music serves various purposes, including:

1. Cultural preservation and education
2. Social commentary and activism
3. Emotional expression and healing
4. Community building and unity

Reducing music to entertainment overlooks its transformative potential.

The famous Greek philosopher Plato emphasized, “Music is the moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” Similarly, Bob Marley noted, “One good thing about music is that when it hits you, you feel no pain.”

In your narrow view of wealth, you may think Saheed Osupa lacks riches , but he has shown generosity and commitment to giving back. If we subtract political influence and contracts from K1’s wealth, what remains? Osupa’s achievements through his musical talent and self-effort surpass K1’s politically fueled success.

King Osupa was rightfully crowned by the creator of Fuji music himself. Wasiu Ayinde’s claim to kingship is questionable, historically rejected by the revered Ataoja of Osogbo.

Fuji music enthusiasts and historians know the truth. Sikiru Ayinde Barrister’s legacy can not be erased or diminished by Wasiu Ayinde’s self-aggrandizing claims. King Dr. Saheed Osupa’s unwavering commitment to honouring Barrister’s legacy is admirable.

If Mr. Rasheed continues his misguided defence. He and K1 will face lyrical destruction. Beware of Fuji Terminator. Sisu Lomo mi Jakie yen, dem don cut one of his ears away. If you call for war, you’ll definitely get more than you can chew.

Respect the history and pioneers of Fuji music. We will not let misinformation tarnish their achievements.
