How Clementine, Wife of Cross River 1st Civilian Gov Clement Isong, Will Be Buried – Family

‘Life of the wife of man on one thousand naira note,’ Details of how the matriarch held the home strongly for 24 years after the death of her husband, first CBN governor to become a state governor in Nigeria 

 

Details have emerged on the burial arrangements for Madam Nne Clementine, the late matriarch of Isong dynasty and wife of the second indigenous governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and first CBN governor to be elected executive governor of a state in Nigeria, late Dr. Clement Nyong Isong.

Platforms Africa reports that Clementine died aged 86 on November 21, 24 years after her husband, who died on May 29, 2000.

The late Madam Isong was succeeded by Clement Isong, the Executive Secretary, Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria (MEMA), among others.

A burial programme released by the family and shared with Platforms Africa showed that the late Clementine would be Buried on December 28, 2024 at Ikog Udo Esang in Onne Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom state.

Born on June 26, 1938, the late Clementine came to the limelight when her husband emerged the governor of old Cross River State.

The matriarch held the home strongly for 24 years after the death of her husband, who is the first governor of CBN to become a state governor in Nigeria. The image of her husband is one of the two (images) on one thousand naira note, highest naira denomination in Nigeria.

She was survived by children, including Ekaete Etuk, Clement Isong Jr., Eno Obi, Inyang Isong, and Ubong Isong.

Her husband Clement Nyong Isong CFR was a Nigerian banker and politician who was governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria from 1967 to 1975 during the military regime of General Yakubu Gowon.

He was later elected governor of Cross River State in the Nigerian Second Republic.

Meanwhile, Team Lead of Platforms Africa, Adeola Yusuf, has sent a condolences message to the Isongs, particularly Mr. Clement Isong Jr., who is an acquaintance of Adeola Yusuf in the energy industry space.

“Late Obongawa Nne Clementine, the late matriarch of Clement Isong dynasty lived a meaningful life. She stood firm during the life and after the demise of our father, late Dr. Clement Nyong Isong, 24 years ago.

“As we celebrate her life, we share heartfelt condolences to the Isongs home and abroad, particularly our dear Mr. Clement Isong Jr. May the legacy of our matriarch continue to flourish.,”  Adeola Yusuf wrote.
