A yet to be officially verified report by Spectator newspaper alleged that a tragic development has emerged in the ongoing sex scandal in Equatorial Guinea, as one of the women allegedly featured in explicit videos has reportedly taken her own life.

The woman, whose identity has not been disclosed, was, according to the online newspaper, said to be overwhelmed by the virality of the footage, which has ignited a media frenzy across the nation.

Though this report is yet to be confirmed by any official or local media from Equatorial Guinea, many rights advocates and women have taken to the social media to call for protection of dignity of those involved.

“They are mothers. They are daughters to many families. We should look beyond their error and still protect their dignity,” Flaky_My wrote.

“Though this is not to excuse their wrongs for going so low to record sexual engagement they consented to, their dignity and rights have to be protected. The video was not recorded to be shared on the Internet,” @Thisgender added.

“Do not think about them, think about their children. Think about their parents who will see the video if no law is made to stop the spread of the video,” she concluded.

The scandal came to light following the arrest of Baltasar Engonga, the Director General of the National Financial Investigation Agency.

Engonga faces serious allegations of misconduct, including the unauthorized recording of over 400 videos involving the wives of high-profile figures in the country.

The disturbing revelation surfaced amid a larger investigation into fraud that led to a search of his residence and office, where officials uncovered numerous CDs containing the controversial recordings.

The explicit videos reportedly feature intimate encounters with influential individuals, including the sister of the President, the wife of the Director General of Police, and spouses of approximately 20 ministers.

The widespread dissemination of these videos has sparked a public outcry, with calls for enhanced protections for the privacy and dignity of those affected.

As the scandal continues to unfold, officials in Equatorial Guinea are reportedly taking measures to mitigate the impact of the incident while pressing forward with their investigation into Engonga’s actions.
